Low-Power Cellular Telemetry Solution for Electric Vehicles

Mihail Vorobiov, Raymond Nemeth, Alexis Polycarpou, Dan D. Micu

A low-power system that reads the solar vehicle's CAN bus (BMS, two MPPTs, inverter, dashboard, auxiliary power) and sends the data, encrypted, over LTE to a server. It was built for the vehicle the team raced at iESC 2024 and evaluated on power use, latency, bandwidth and error rate.

In-wheel Slotless Permanent Magnet Electrical Machines for Solar Vehicle Propulsion

Vincent Dury, Lionel Steeve Gounou Kouontchou, Mihai Chirca, Stefan Breban

Optimises two versions of an in-wheel permanent magnet synchronous motor with toroidal winding for propelling a light solar vehicle. Finite-element analysis suggests slotless machines suit the job when rated power is low.

Numerical Analysis of an Outer Rotor Electric Machine for Solar Electric Vehicle Propulsion

Danuț-Marian Popa, Florin Jurca

Compares five outer-rotor synchronous motor designs of up to 1 kW to find a light, efficient in-wheel motor for a solar vehicle. The first author, Dănuț-Marian Popa, led motor design in the Solis team.
