AGERPRES reports that two solar vehicles built by students of the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca will represent Romania at the iLumen European Solar Challenge in Belgium. The agency spoke to Cătălin Bozsodi, a student and coordinator in the Solis UTCN communication department, at the presentation of the two vehicles, which he called the most important event of the team's year.
“Today is the most important event of the year for us, the Car Rebuild event, where we unveil the vehicles we will race at our next competition”
Cătălin Bozsodi, communication department coordinator
The race brings together about 30 university teams from Europe and beyond, each trying to build the best solar-powered electric vehicle. AGERPRES notes that, for the first time in the team's history, Solis will race two vehicles built entirely by students at the same competition.
The vehicles belong to different classes. Hyperion Origin is the Challenger-class racing vehicle, built for the best possible time on the circuit. The Cruiser has two seats and storage space, and the team says it is a way to bring the technology developed for racing closer to everyday use. AGERPRES calls it simply the Cruiser; its name is Voyager Origin.
Hyperion Origin is the vehicle Solis raced at the 2025 Bridgestone World Solar Challenge in Australia. AGERPRES lists six square metres of solar panels, a 3 kWh battery, up to 300 km of range and a tested top speed of 120 km/h. The agency also writes that the vehicle covered about 3,000 km across Australia in six days on solar energy alone. According to the official results, Hyperion was 18th of 26 Challengers and last reached Port Augusta, about 2,700 km from Darwin.
