Știri de Cluj reports that UTCN and the Solis team presented their vehicles for the 2026 international races at Cars Reveal Solis 2026, held on 18 May at Hub UTCN. Two vehicles were launched, Hyperion Origin and Voyager Origin, and the team says this year is special: for the first time, it developed two solar electric vehicles in parallel.

“We are not racing just to build the best solar electric vehicle in the world; we are racing to find and put into practice new green technologies that bring us closer to a sustainable future”

As UTCN describes them, Hyperion Origin is the racing vehicle, built for high speed, clean aerodynamics and long range. It has a single seat, for the driver, and was entered in the Challenger class at the iLumen European Solar Challenge in Belgium. Voyager Origin is closer to an ordinary road vehicle: it carries a driver and a passenger, has storage space, more comfort and a much larger battery, and races in the Cruiser class.

The article gives Hyperion Origin a top speed of 120 km/h, a weight of 194 kg and about 300 km of range on battery alone. In ideal sun, it says, the vehicle can run on the power its panels produce at that moment. UTCN also explains why the team races: to find and apply new green technologies.

Știri de Cluj calls Solis the largest student project in Romania, with about 70 students and six vehicles raced in Belgium, Italy and Australia. Some of its figures differ from the team's own. The article dates the project to 2021; the team counts 2018 as its start and 2021 as the year its first vehicle was finished.

It also says Solis crossed more than 3,000 km on solar power alone in 2025 and placed 18th of 32. The official result is 18th of 26 in the Challenger class, and the last control stop Hyperion reached was Port Augusta, about 2,700 km from Darwin.
