Antena 3 CNN reports that UTCN students will represent Romania at the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge 2025 in Australia with Solis Hyperion, the most advanced solar vehicle their team has built so far. Ahead of them lie the heat and more than 3,000 km of road, driven on the energy of the sun.

“I am very proud of their work. Different skills develop when you work like this on a project like this. And a project like this helps them be very well prepared when they really start their professional lives”

Ștefan Breban, founder and mentor of the Solis team

The report shows the end of months of sleepless nights and hundreds of hours in the workshop. The vehicle was packed without its wheels and motor, taken by truck to Amsterdam and from there flown to Darwin. More than 25 students worked on it, from mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering to media and management.

Among them is Ștefania, the youngest member of the team, aged 17. She says she joined to lend a hand now and then, and that her first race, in Belgium, made her realise how much she liked the project and the idea behind it.

The team's mentor is Ștefan Breban, who drew on his academic years in France, brought the idea of solar vehicles to Romania and formed the Solis team in 2018. He tells Antena 3 he is very proud of the students and that the project prepares them for their working lives. The channel also notes that the team had joined the Dan Voiculescu Foundation's “100 de tineri pentru dezvoltarea României 2025” campaign.
